Civil rights form a fundamental component of a democratic society, ensuring equal social opportunities and legal protection for all citizens, regardless of factors such as race, religion, or other characteristics. Examples of civil rights include the right to vote, a fair trial, access to government services, and a public education. Upholding civil rights is essential for maintaining a just and equitable society.
Woman Rights Protection
Violence against women, particularly intimate partner violence and sexual violence, represents a significant public health concern and a blatant violation of women's human rights. According to estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1 in 3 (30%) women globally have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. The predominant form of this violence is intimate partner violence. On a global scale, nearly one third (27%) of women aged 15-49 years, who have been in a relationship, report having endured some form of physical and/or sexual violence perpetrated by their intimate partner.
The repercussions of such violence are extensive, adversely affecting women's physical, mental, sexual, and reproductive health. Additionally, it may heighten the risk of HIV transmission in certain contexts. It is crucial to emphasize that violence against women is preventable. The health sector plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive healthcare to women who have experienced violence, serving as a gateway for connecting them with additional support services they may require. Through collaborative efforts, it is possible to address and mitigate the impact of violence on women's well-being and foster a safer and healthier society
The fundamental objective of the Right to Information Act is to empower citizens, enhance transparency, and foster accountability in the functioning of the Government. It aims to curb corruption and ensure that our democracy genuinely serves the people. The underlying premise is that an informed citizenry is better positioned to scrutinize the mechanisms of governance, thereby compelling the government to be more accountable to its constituents. This Act represents a significant stride in ensuring that citizens are well-informed about government activities, reinforcing the principles of open governance and facilitating a more engaged and vigilant public.

Civil Rights
The Right to Safety encompasses the entitlement to protection against the sale of goods and services that pose risks to life and property. Acquired goods and services should not only meet immediate needs but also serve long-term interests. Consumers are encouraged to prioritize product quality, demand guarantees, and consider purchasing items with quality marks such as ISI, AGMARK, etc., to ensure safety. The Right to be Informed entails access to information about the quality, quantity, potency, purity, standards, and prices of goods, protecting consumers against unfair trade practices. Prior to making decisions, consumers should insist on obtaining comprehensive information to make informed choices, avoiding succumbing to high-pressure sales tactics.
The Right to Choose ensures access to a variety of goods and services at competitive prices, particularly in the case of monopolies, where consumers have the right to expect satisfactory quality and service at fair prices. This right is exercised more effectively in competitive markets with a range of goods available at competitive prices. The Right to be Heard guarantees that consumer interests will be considered in relevant forums and includes the right to representation in committees addressing consumer welfare. Consumers are encouraged to form non-political and non-commercial organizations to be represented in governmental and other bodies dealing with consumer matters.
The Right to Seek Redressal empowers consumers to seek remedy against unfair trade practices or exploitation. It includes the right to fair settlement of genuine grievances, and consumers are urged to file complaints for redressal, even if the value is small, as it may have a significant impact on society. Consumer organizations can assist in seeking redressal. Finally, the Right to Consumer Education emphasizes the right to acquire knowledge and skills to be informed consumers throughout life. Consumer awareness is crucial, especially for rural consumers, to prevent exploitation. Knowing and exercising rights is key to successful consumer protection.
